About
Julia Wheatley is a conceptual artist whose work reflects the intricacies of life and lived experiences become a tapestry of woven stories. With a background in Industrial Design and a decade working as a professional model she draws from her own unusual path, where diverse elements blend like a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes. Wheatley’s work addresses themes of identity such as the choices we make and how we relate to the larger composition of life. While her paintings acknowledge the idea of every story as completely unique, her visual language utilizes repeating patterns as a way to highlight the importance of shared narratives and the richness that community brings to the human experience.
Born in the United States and currently based on the East Coast, Wheatley earned her BFA Summa Cum Laude from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her works have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, both digitally and physically as she dabbles in what it means to be a traditional artist in an increasingly digital world.
Her art process begins by hand - working paper and found items into intricate collages which she uses as the compositional studies for her paintings.
